Advances in robotic welding applications have changed dramatically in recent years. Programming has become easier thus significantly reducing programming hours. “Repeatability” has improved as well as the design of components and welding cells. Many manufacturers have developed “off the shelf” cell configurations that allow the purchase of predesigned systems for most welding applications. Many of these cells are shipped in one piece, and can be removed from the truck and made operational in the same day with safety systems and fume exhaust in place.

TIG robotic advances in the last three years have simplified previously unweldable configurations and joints resulting in precision welds even on sheet metal corner applications. Windows based programming and training included with system purchases simplify learning and help improve productivity right from the start.

EWA knows robotics, and with offerings from Panasonic and Lincoln/Fanuc, we can provide the right robotic welding solution for your application.
Case Study: Seconn Fabrication installs new robotic welder
ABCO Welding and Industrial Supply, a provider of industrial, medical and specialty gases throughout Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts, has partnered with Eastern Welding Automation, a welding automation system integrator, to install a leading edge, uniquely designed robotic welder at Seconn Fabrication of Waterford, Connecticut. This fully automated MIG welder, designed to specifications developed by Seconn and EWA, is the first of its kind in eastern Connecticut. Online as of July 2007, with a Lincoln 455M/stt power supply and Fanuc controller, this new technology will enhance the already efficient production capabilities at Seconn as well as manage projected growth “It’s a real pleasure to work with a customer who is always looking ahead to find answers to tomorrow’s needs, shares Todd Gigliotti, Seconn Account Manager at ABCO.

The Seconn team is proud to introduce to the production floor technology that reflects the unique operating model of this company. “At Seconn we routinely introduce a new method, technology or system to our industry,“ comments Rob Marelli, Founder and President of Seconn. “From building a new, 35,000 sq. ft. plant, to installing the fastest, most efficient laser cutting technology, if investing in new resources improves the way we do business, and is of benefit to our customers, we’ll make that investment.”

With corporate offices a few footsteps away from the Seconn facility, the ABCO team has witnessed first-hand the phenomenal growth at Seconn and applauds this latest leadership move. “Seconn’s willingness to plan ahead and take action on improving their welding capabilities is one of the reasons they are enjoying so much success” shares Frank Hanney, Welding Automation Manager at Eastern Welding Automation. “The Lincoln/Fanuc welding robot will bring Seconn’s welding production capabilities to a new level not typically seen in this area … and with the talented team that Rob Marelli continues to build, we have high expectations for Seconn.”

Seconn Fabrication is a precision sheet metal fabricator specializing in design, engineering, test development, prototyping, custom manufacturing...and integrity. Located in Southeastern Connecticut, its 35,000-sq-ft world-class manufacturing facility features a specially designed layout that allows it to excel in both short- and long-production runs. Continuous improvement in technology and human processes distinguishes Seconn as a leader in precision sheet metal fabrication, as well as an innovator that places value on creating and maintaining
exceptional relationships with its customers. High standards equal a secure future for Seconn and its customers. For more information visit www.seconn.com

ABCO, founded in 1921 in New London, Connecticut as " The Auto Battery Company” remains under the same family ownership to this day. From those modest beginnings, they have grown to a multi-million dollar supplier of industrial, medical, and specialty gases, welding and safety equipment. ABCO has expanded from a single location in Waterford, Connecticut to 10 retail and distribution outlets throughout Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
